Artemisia annua, the annual mugwort, is an extremely important plant with a very wide range of uses and a lot of valuable ingredients, which are mainly hidden in the leaves.
It has been held in particularly high regard in Asia for over 2000 years, where it has been used for various purposes since before the birth of Christ.
In 2015, the Chinese researcher Tu Youyou was even awarded the Nobel Prize for the rediscovery of artemisinin, an ingredient extracted and isolated from Artemisia annua.
Yes, "annual mugwort" and "Artemisia annua" refer to the same plant. Artemisia annua is the scientific name for the plant, which is often referred to as annual mugwort in German, sweet wormwood in English and qinghao in Chinese.
In total, annual mugwort contains over 600 different valuable ingredients. The most important of these is artemisinin.
In recent years in particular, artemisinin has increasingly become the focus of scientific attention through leading institutions such as the Max Planck Institute.
Since 1996 we have been working with scientists from different countries to offer a consistent, reliable Artemisia annua product .
This is how our Artemisia annua anamed (called "A-3"), a special cultivar of the annual mugwort that is free from any genetic manipulation and is not a hybrid form, came about.
The big advantage: it contains around 20 times more artemisinin than most wild forms of the Artemisia annua plant(which is 1.4% instead of the usual 0.05-0.4%). It also has no flowers at the time of harvest in late fall, which makes it a very allergy-friendly subspecies .
This "masterpiece of the green treasure chest" is available exclusively from us.
You can always expect competence, honesty and reliability when you have questions for us. However, we ask for your understanding that we are unfortunately not allowed to provide any further information on some of our natural products.
Our Artemisa annua anamed (A-3) is expressly marketed as a plant raw material. This corresponds to the current legal situation.
Our A-3 is harvested and bottled exclusively by certified producers and in accordance with the highest quality standards in Germany.
In Europe, tractors are usually used for harvesting, which means that the finished product contains a lot of "weeds". Our leaves are carefully and meticulously stripped by hand by our growers and then gently processed in order to preserve the many valuable ingredients and thus offer you a product of the highest possible quality and purity.
In contrast to the usual Herba quality, which consists of mechanically chopped plant parts and usually contains 80% stems with no content, our product is also far more concentrated.
Ensuring Artemisia annua products meet high quality standards involves a great deal of effort.
It is therefore hardly surprising that the price of high-quality products is adjusted accordingly and that comparatively cheap products cannot possibly meet the same quality standards.
For example: a field worker in Germany earns about 100 times as much as a picker in north-east India. For the price we pay our German farmers for 1 kilo of A-3 production, we would get 150 kilos of (brown) A-2 (i.e. wild) produce from Asia.
If you extrapolate these facts, the higher-quality offer is definitely worth it:
- Price per 1 mg artemisinin in wild form (A-2) with stems:
180 cents - Price per 1 mg artemisinin in Artemisia annua anamed (A-3) from pure leaves: 3 cents
The annual mugwort (Artemisia annua) and the common mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) are two remarkable plants of the composite family.
The leaves of the annual mugwort are finely pinnate, which gives them a delicate, graceful appearance . Their color is deep green. The leaves of the common mugwort are broader and larger.
The most important difference is that, unlike common mugwort, annual mugwort (Artemisia annua) contains the "revolutionary ingredient" artemisinin.
The leaf powder of Artemisia annua is finer than the leaf cut and is preferred by most customers. Both are suitable for different purposes. Otherwise, there are no other differences between the two varieties.
