You can find out here. Cosmetics and fragrance industry. Here, its valuable essential oils are highly valued for the manufacture of cosmetic products, perfumes and room fragrances. It is a natural alternative to synthetic room fresheners, especially for use as a room fragrance.

What is leaf cutting?

A green area with cultivated plants.

They often used scented sachets filled with dried leaves, which they hung in the room or placed in cupboards or drawers. Traditional incense burning and scenting with Artemisia annua leaves is still widespread in many cultures today.

What is leaf powder?

The production process of our leaf cut and leaf powder

The cultivation, production and further processing of our leaf cuttings and leaf powder require the utmost care and precision. These are the precise steps we take in the process:

Cultivation

Our highest principle is to practice gentle agriculture that respects people, animals and plants alike. That is why our Artemisia annua plants are always grown in perfectly fertile, nutrient-rich soil and under optimal light and water conditions. We only use natural pesticides and do not use mineral fertilizers or genetically modified microorganisms.

Harvest

Whether leaf cutting or leaf powder - no harvesting machines are used to harvest our plants, instead we harvest them by hand. Even the careful stripping of the leaves - the part of the plant with the most valuable ingredients - is done by hand. This is the only way we can ensure that only healthy, undamaged leaves end up in our end products

Drying

After the plants have been carefully harvested and the leaves stripped off, they are dried. The leaves are first dried in a drying cabinet for 24 hours and then dried completely and evenly at temperatures below 40 degrees, which ensures that all the ingredients are retained

Further processing

This is where the leaf cut and leaf powder plants part ways. For leaf cuttings, the dried leaves are cut by hand into small, even pieces and then sieved. For leaf powder, on the other hand, the chopped leaves are ground into a fine powder - sometimes with an electric mill, sometimes with a hand mill.

Intended use

Whether leaf cuttings or leaf powder is the right choice for you depends, of course, essentially on what you want to use the Artemisia annua product for. You will therefore find the most important areas of application for leaf cuttings and leaf powder here.

To do this, use leaf cutting

  • Infusion: Would you like to use Artemisia annua as an infusion with hot water for external use? Then the leaf powder is the product of choice. This is because the coarser leaf pieces are ideal for effectively releasing the valuable ingredients of Artemisia annua into the water.

  • Incense: If you intend to use Artemisia annua as incense, use leaf cuttings. This is easier to burn than the fine leaf powder and can enrich the room with an aromatic scent. You can find out more about using Artemisia annua as a room fragrance here.

Use leaf powder for this

  • Cosmetics: The leaf powder is very suitable for use in cosmetics - such as our Artemisia annua ointment. This is because the fine processing allows the ingredients to be optimally dissolved and distributed in the corresponding medium.

  • Alcohol extract: The fine leaf powder is ideal for making an alcohol extract - also known as a plant tincture. Just as when used in cosmetic products, the fine texture allows the valuable ingredients to dissolve perfectly in the alcohol. We also use pure leaf powder for our Artemisia annua alcohol extract.

The direct comparison: leaf cut vs leaf powder

Manufacture Harvesting → Drying → Shredding Harvesting → Drying → Crushing → Grinding
Intended use Infusion, incense Cosmetics, alcohol extract

As you can see here, leaf powder requires an additional work step that is not necessary with leaf cutting: the fine grinding of the leaves. For this reason, our teemana leaf powder is also a little more expensive than the leaf cut. This additional work step naturally involves more effort and higher costs on our part.

Conclusion

As you can see, the decision between leaf cut and leaf powder depends largely on what you want to use the Artemisia annua product for. The differences between the two forms are small, but nevertheless significant. While leaf cuttings are particularly suitable for use as an infusion or incense, leaf powder is the ideal choice for cosmetic products or an alcohol extract.

But regardless of whether you ultimately opt for the leaf cut or the leaf powder - you can be sure: At teemana, you will always find completely pure products made exclusively from pure leaves - 100% free from stems, branches and other parts of the plant that are low in content.
